Male’ City Mayor Azim has announced that the renovation of the Male’ Cemetery has been fully completed and is set to reopen next Friday, October 4th.
Mayor Azim highlighted the completion of the mosque and the waiting area for funeral participants. Earlier this month, part of the cemetery mosque was opened to the public; however, funeral proceedings could not be conducted at that time due to pending work on the first floor of the mosque and the waiting area, which has now been finalized.
The upgrade project commenced during President Dr. Muizzu’s tenure as Mayor of Male’ City in June 2023.
Initially, the project was awarded to a contractor for MVR 4.9 million with a one-month completion timeframe. However, due to delays, MVR 3.6 million had been disbursed to the first contractor before the council discontinued the initial contract. The project was subsequently awarded to B-Six Pvt Ltd for MVR 4.6 million. Additionally, the finishing works were assigned to another party, bringing the total cost of renovations and refurbishments to MVR 11 million.
