In a decisive move aimed at reducing government expenditure, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has instructed the removal of 228 political appointees from various government ministries within the next 15 days. This strategic initiative, part of the broader Economic Reform Agenda, is expected to yield significant savings of Rf 5.714 million per month from the government budget.

The reductions will encompass 7 State Ministers, 43 Deputy Ministers, 109 Senior Political Directors, and 69 Political Directors. This decision comes at a time when various tax reforms for the tourism and travel sector have been announced, alongside compulsory dollar exchange and deposit regulations that have garnered criticism from the industry.

President Dr. Muizzu's announcement has been well-received by the public, who view the reduction of political appointees as a necessary step towards financial accountability. The decision addresses ongoing concerns regarding governmental operational efficiency, especially amid rising taxes and a perceived lack of action on political appointments.

As the nation moves forward, this reform is anticipated to foster a more streamlined governmental structure, enabling a focus on effective governance while addressing the pressing concerns of the tourism sector.
