The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has suspended Deputy Director Hassan Manik following allegations of misappropriating approximately MVR 1 million. Hassan, who joined the ACC in 2007, is also serving as the commission's media official and is currently in his second year as the president of the ACC’s recreation club.
The suspension was prompted by a financial audit of the recreation club, which operates as an independent entity funded by monthly employee contributions of MVR 175 and revenue generated from the office canteen. ACC stated that the matter has been forwarded to the police for further investigation.
The executive committee of the recreation club initially reported discrepancies after conducting an audit of its finances. An individual familiar with the case disclosed that funds raised by employees three to four months ago for a colleague's bone marrow transplant remain unaccounted for.
Additionally, the source revealed that a portion of the money collected for the Gaza Fund had also been misused. "The audit so far has revealed that over MVR 900,000 is missing," the source added.
