A 33-year-old Maldivian man was arrested last night for attempting to attack an Imam during Maghrib prayers at a mosque in Hulhumale' Phase 1.

According to a police media official, the suspect tried to assault the Imam with a sharp object. When a police officer intervened to stop the attack, the man attempted to assault the officer as well.

The individual has been detained on charges of attempting assault with a sharp object on both the Imam and the police officer. Authorities are currently conducting further investigations into the incident.
