Pizza Hut and KFC outlets in Hulhumale', which opened last year, have now shut down.
It has been reported that low business led to both businesses having to close it doors permanently. However, neither has yet officially commented on reasons for closure.
The KFC and Pizza Hut outlets were opened over the Rashu Market in Hulhumale' last April.
Both were on the boycott list in relation to the genocide being committed in Palestine by Israel. KFC, however, denied any connections with the issue, claiming they are a non-political establishment.
The boycotts were conducted in Maldives as well, with protests erupting outside KFC and Pizza Hut in Male' on many occasions. Vandals also have attacked the outlets in more than one instance. The two outlets continue to be in operation regardless.
KFC has faced major losses in muslim majority countries such as Malaysia and Indonesia. As per media reports, KFC received losses of USD 35 million in Indonesia in the first quarter of this year, with 47 outlets in the country having to be shut down.
Several outlets in Malaysia have also been temporarily closed this year due to loss.
The popular franchise was brought to Maldives in 2018 by Gemma Island Food, a joint venture between Maldives' Island Food and India's Gemma Pizza Craft Overseas.
