Three individuals have been sentenced to 1 year and 3 months in prison for luring victims into a house in Male', stripping them, and extorting money.

The accused—Aishath and Mohamed Reehan of Ma. Masfan, along with Shafeeq Ibrahim of Soma, Seenu Hithadhoo—were charged with luring a man into Ma. Masfan, forcibly obtaining the PIN of his cash card, and stealing money from his account.

The charges included deliberately obtaining information in a prohibited manner, assault, and extortion. All three admitted guilt during hearings at the Criminal Court.

For their crimes, the court issued the following sentences:

  • Extortion: 9 months and 18 days in prison

  • Assault: 2 months and 12 days in prison

  • Prohibited information gathering: 4 months and 24 days in prison

This brought their total sentence to 1 year and 3 months, delivered last Wednesday.

According to the court order, the group threatened the victim, transferring MVR 20,000 from his account to another and withdrawing an additional MVR 25,000 using his cash card.

Police have previously reported that this address has been used multiple times to lure and threaten victims in similar schemes.
