India Appoints G. Balasubramanian as New High Commissioner to the Maldives

The Indian government has appointed Shri G. Balasubramanian, currently serving as the High Commissioner to Nigeria, as the next High Commissioner to the Maldives.


According to a statement from the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, Balasubramanian is expected to assume his new role soon, although a specific date has not yet been announced.


He will succeed Munu Mahawar, who has served as the Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives since November 2021. Mahawar's term is set to conclude this month.


Balasubramanian brings extensive experience in diplomacy, having served in the Indian Foreign Service since 1998. His previous roles include Deputy Chief of Mission in Moscow and Bangkok, as well as India’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP).


The appointment comes as Maldives and India continue to strengthen bilateral relations. Both nations are collaborating on numerous projects in the Maldives, reflecting their commitment to fostering mutual cooperation.
