Maldives Achieves Milestone in Tourism Growth for 2024

The Maldives has surpassed 1.8 million tourist arrivals this year, reflecting a significant boost in its tourism sector. According to the Tourism Ministry, this marks a 9.2% increase compared to the same period in 2023, when the milestone was reached on December 20. This year, the 1.8 millionth tourist arrived nearly a month earlier, underscoring the steady rise in visitor numbers.


As of now, the Maldives has welcomed 1.1 million tourists from its top 10 source markets, contributing 64.8% of the total arrivals. The leading source countries include:



  • China: 248,500 visitors

  • Russia: 202,100 visitors

  • United Kingdom: 156,900 visitors

  • Germany: 139,800 visitors

  • Italy: 122,500 visitors

  • India: 110,000 visitors

  • United States: 60,500 visitors

  • France: 47,300 visitors

  • Spain: 42,400 visitors

  • Switzerland: 36,100 visitors


The Maldives currently operates 1,242 tourist facilities, comprising 171 resorts, 902 guesthouses, 155 safari boats, and 14 hotels, offering a total capacity of 62,690 beds.


Looking ahead, the Maldives is on track to achieve a record-breaking target of 2 million tourist arrivals by the end of the year, reinforcing its position as a premier global travel destination.
