Aasandha Company Limited, the national health insurance provider of the Maldives, has signed agreements with three major hospitals in Dubai and Bangkok, with coverage set to begin next month. The contracts were signed by Aasandha’s Managing Director, Aminath Zeeniya, alongside representatives from the hospitals.

The newly partnered hospitals include Burjeel Medical City (BMC) in Dubai, as well as World Medical Hospital and Bangkok Hospital in Thailand. Starting January 15, patients will be sent to these facilities for medical treatment.

The expansion aligns with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's earlier announcement following his visit to China in January. During his speech, he revealed plans to extend Aasandha’s coverage to Thailand and Dubai, ensuring improved medical care for Maldivians until local healthcare facilities are developed.

Additionally, the scheme will now include accommodation expenses for patients traveling abroad for treatment. “Maldivians will have access to superior medical services in Dubai and Bangkok, along with accommodation coverage, until the country’s healthcare facilities reach the desired standard,” the President stated.

Currently, Aasandha provides coverage at 57 international hospitals, primarily in India and Sri Lanka, which include eight hospitals in Sri Lanka and 49 in India. The addition of Dubai and Bangkok marks a significant step in broadening healthcare options for Maldivians.
