Last night, police conducted a search of the residence of former Managing Director of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed, as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged corruption in the Binveriya and Gedhoruveriya housing schemes.

According to a statement released today, the search was carried out under a court order, and several items, including electronic devices, were seized for investigative purposes.

The police and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) are jointly investigating allegations of land being awarded to individuals who did not meet eligibility criteria under the Binveriya scheme, the wrongful allocation of flats under the Gedhoruveriya scheme, and irregularities in the awarding of Vinares flats.

Fazul is specifically accused of allocating a plot of land to his brother, Ibrahim Fazeel Rasheed, despite Fazeel failing to meet the scheme's land ownership requirements and not being included in the official list of land recipients.

The investigation continues as authorities work to address the alleged misuse of public resources and ensure accountability in the housing schemes.
