Police have apprehended three expatriates in Hulhumalé Phase 3 on charges of brewing alcohol.
The incident began when officers observed a foreign national carrying a box and acting suspiciously near the beach area. When approached, the suspect attempted to assault the officers and flee. Upon intercepting him, the police discovered 30 bottles, each containing 500 milliliters of a substance suspected to be alcohol.
Subsequent investigations led officers to the suspect's accommodation, where two additional individuals tried to escape but were apprehended. A further search revealed 72 more bottles of similar size, an additional alcohol bottle, and equipment used for brewing alcohol in the kitchen area.
The three arrested men, all Bangladeshi nationals, have been remanded in custody for 10 days as investigations continue.
