Ahmed Mubeen, Managing Director of Regional Airports Company, has announced that construction work on Meemu Atoll's Muli Airport has been completed, with operations targeted to commence on March 1 next year.

The airport development project, initially contracted by the previous administration to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) for MVR 212 million, faced delays due to budget constraints. Although the initial timeline was one year, the work extended beyond the planned period.

Mubeen confirmed that all major construction, including the terminal and air traffic control tower, is now finished, with final touches nearing completion. Additionally, an order has been placed for the required fire truck, which will enable test flights to be scheduled by the March 1 deadline.

The government recently transferred oversight of Muli Airport to the Regional Airports Company, which will manage its operations.
