The Maldives government has announced a series of tourism promotion initiatives aimed at achieving a target of USD 5 billion in tourism revenues by 2025. This follows a historic milestone in the country’s 50-year tourism history, with 2 million tourist arrivals recorded for the first time this year.

The Maldives Marketing and PR Corporation (MMPRC) credited its extensive promotional activities for reaching this milestone. These initiatives included three fairs, a roadshow, fifteen social media campaigns, twenty-three virtual events, and the Discover Maldives webinar series. Additionally, symposiums were conducted in key markets such as China.

Building on this year's success, Visit Maldives is set to adopt new strategic approaches for the upcoming year. Plans include designing content for digital video campaigns, revamping cultural trade shows, and launching conversion-driven marketing activities.

Key events planned for 2025 include:

  • Visit Maldives Shop: A platform to sell brand merchandise.

  • Visit Maldives Calendar: A comprehensive guide to all major events in the Maldives throughout the year.

  • Centralized Tourism Hub: Simplifying trip planning for tourists.

  • Visit Maldives Academy: Offering educational programs and awarding Destination Specialist Certificates to enhance industry knowledge.

  • Visit Maldives Content Portal: A platform for creators to showcase and sell digital products, featuring curated content for tourism promotion.

MMPRC aims to host major events across 25 markets throughout the year, with a strong focus on campaigns for the summer season. The goal for 2024 is to welcome 2.2 million tourists.

MMPRC CEO and Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuree highlighted that interest in the Maldives remains strong, citing Google Trends data showing over 20 million searches related to vacationing in the Maldives. With these innovative strategies, the Maldives looks to solidify its position as a top global tourist destination.
