The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has announced that temporary shelter and food have been provided to 226 individuals from 36 households severely impacted by Friday's heavy rains and subsequent flooding in Malé.
The torrential rain, which lasted from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM, led to widespread flooding across the city. Floodwaters entered homes and shops, causing extensive damage, with Maafannu ward being the most affected area.
NDMA reported receiving distress calls from 53 households facing significant challenges due to flood damage. After conducting rapid assessments, 36 homes were deemed uninhabitable, necessitating the relocation of their residents to temporary shelters.
The affected families are currently being supported with essential provisions, including food and water, as authorities work to assist them in recovery and rehabilitation.
