Maldives Immigration has deported two expatriates linked to large-scale prostitution networks.
In a social media update, Immigration reported that a special operation conducted in partnership with the police led to the apprehension of four women and three men suspected of engaging in prostitution.
Following investigations, two women—a 38-year-old Ugandan and a 25-year-old Russian—were deported and banned from reentering the Maldives. Efforts are underway to deport five additional expatriates connected to the case, according to the post.
This operation is part of an ongoing effort by Maldives Immigration to curb illegal activities involving expatriates. Similar actions in the past have resulted in the apprehension and deportation of numerous individuals involved in prostitution.
To date, more than 5,000 people have been deported as part of initiatives to control illegal immigration in the Maldives.
