Maldivian Arrested for Attempting to Smuggle Heroin at Airport

A 39-year-old Maldivian man from Fuvahmulah has been arrested for attempting to smuggle drugs into the country via an airport.


According to the Criminal Court’s remand order, the man was found with 109 grams of heroin concealed in a bag tied beneath the handles of his luggage. The drugs were discovered upon his arrival in the Maldives, and subsequent tests conducted by Customs confirmed the substance as heroin.


A urine test administered by the police also returned positive for drug use.


The suspect was presented to court and remanded for 15 days pending further investigation. Authorities have confirmed that the individual has a history of drug-related offenses.


This case underscores ongoing efforts by Maldivian authorities to combat drug trafficking and strengthen airport security measures.
