Maldives Immigration has detained 17 expatriates near the Heenaamaage Parking Area in Malé for violating immigration laws. The operation was conducted following public concerns about expatriates reportedly dominating the area.
As part of the operation, authorities inspected expatriates gathering in the vicinity as well as shops and outlets operated by them nearby. During the inspections, 17 expatriates without valid visas were identified and detained.
This action is part of a broader effort initiated last year by Maldives Immigration to address illegal residency and employment among expatriates in the country. To date, over 5,000 expatriates have been deported, including individuals involved in crimes such as prostitution and other illegal activities.
Maldives Immigration remains committed to upholding immigration laws and ensuring that expatriates residing and working in the country comply with legal requirements.
