President Muizzu Declares February 6 as a Government Holiday for Presidential Address

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has declared February 6, a Thursday, as a government holiday in Maldives.


The holiday coincides with the annual Presidential Address, which the President is set to deliver at the start of the parliamentary session. This is in accordance with Article 84 of the Maldives Constitution, which requires the President to address the People’s Majlis at the beginning of its first session each year. The address will outline the state of the country and propose measures for improvement.


Following the address, as per Parliament Regulations, the minority leader of Parliament is tasked with preparing and submitting a formal response.


The new session of Parliament is scheduled to commence in the first week of February. Ahead of this, two extraordinary sittings have been arranged, with the first sitting set to take place tomorrow.
