Aasandha has begun offering medical coverage for treatments in Thailand and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), expanding its network of empanelled foreign hospitals.

The coverage now includes Burjeel Medical City (BMC) in Abu Dhabi, UAE, and two hospitals in Bangkok, Thailand: World Medical Hospital and Bangkok Hospital.

During a press briefing, Aasandha announced that, for now, only patients requiring kidney transplants will be referred to UAE. This is due to a special provision by the UAE Health Council allowing Maldivians and Muslims to use distant donors who may not be first-degree relatives.

For Thailand, priority will be given to individuals undergoing treatment for long-term ailments.

Medical trips to Thailand and UAE will follow the same referral system currently in place for India and Sri Lanka. Under existing policies, Aasandha provides coverage for medical expenses, return tickets, food, and accommodation for eligible cases. For those traveling to UAE for kidney transplants, Aasandha will also cover the travel and accommodation expenses for the donor.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu had announced the inclusion of UAE and Thailand in Aasandha coverage last January.

Currently, Aasandha is partnered with 57 foreign hospitals, with services already offered at 49 hospitals in India and 8 in Sri Lanka.
