ADK Hospital has officially launched a one-year medical internship program with 20 participating doctors. Recognized by the Medical Council, the program includes structured academic lectures, workshops, and clinical training components designed to prepare interns to become qualified, licensed, and skilled medical professionals.

According to the hospital, participants in the program, who are graduates from various countries, must pay MVR 14,500 per month, totaling MVR 174,000 for the year-long internship.

As per Medical Council regulations, medical graduates must complete a one-year internship after their 5-6 years of study to obtain a practice license.

The Health Ministry requested ADK to initiate this program due to the high demand for internship placements at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH). In response, ADK submitted detailed cost estimates for running the program and requested the government to cover these expenses. However, the ministry has yet to provide a response.

Internships at IGMH, the main government hospital, began in January 2018. Currently, 60 doctors are undergoing training at IGMH.
