The Hankede Bridge in Addu, constructed with loan aid from India, was officially opened to the public at midnight last night. Ahead of the opening, the Addu City Council introduced several changes to traffic flow on connecting roads.

Traffic Flow Changes:

  • Hiyaa Fannu Magu, Vaifahi Magu, and Jamaalee Goalhi in Maradhoo are now one-way streets.

  • A road closure is in place where the Hankede causeway from Link Road joins Maradhoo.

  • Orchid Magu in Feydhoo, Orchid Magu in Maradhoo, and Lily Magu in Maradhoo Feydhoo will temporarily allow parking on one side.

  • A permanent ban on parking in these areas will take effect after 1 AM.

The Hankede Bridge is part of a broader infrastructure project initiated in 2021 under the Indian Exim Bank’s line of credit. The project, which includes flood protection and road development across all islands in Addu City, was awarded at a cost of USD 77.6 million (MVR 1.1 billion) and was originally scheduled for completion within two years.
