The Housing Ministry has ordered the Thinadhoo City Council to cancel its recent announcement inviting applications for 200 housing units in the city, citing procedural violations.
A letter sent by the ministry, obtained by Mihaaru, was signed by Deputy Minister Hassan Visal and emphasized that the construction, allocation, and verification of housing units fall under the ministry’s mandate. It further stated that all housing units developed in different regions must be allocated in accordance with ministry-approved regulations.
The letter reminded the council that the 200 housing units currently under construction in Thinadhoo are under the ministry’s supervision. It also stated that before opening applications, the council should have finalized allocation policies and proceeded under the ministry’s guidance.
However, the Thinadhoo City Council had opened applications without notifying or obtaining permission from the ministry, leading to the directive to void the announcement.
