Maldives has begun preparations to claim the world record for the longest single open water dive, with the 'Across Maldives Dive' organized by Ocean Six Fifty set to take place in two phases. The event was inaugurated at Hulhumalé Beach by Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Shiyam highlighted the importance of utilizing the Maldivian seas with innovative technology and expressed the government’s support for the initiative. He also noted that the record attempt would introduce Maldives to a wider global audience.

Ocean Six Fifty stated that the first record will be set next Wednesday with a 17-kilometre dive around Hulhumalé. The second record will involve a dive spanning the entire length of the Maldives, from HA. Thuraakunu to Addu City.

With a total distance of 4,600 kilometres, this will be the longest open water dive in the world.
