President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has removed Mohamed Sameer from his position as a presidential appointee to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) and appointed Yazmeed Mohamed as his replacement. The President's Office confirmed the change today, though no specific reasons for the decision were provided.
The reshuffle comes amid growing speculation that the government may be preparing to take legal action against certain Supreme Court judges. The JSC, responsible for overseeing and holding judges accountable, plays a vital role in maintaining judicial integrity in the Maldives.
Currently, the JSC is chaired by Maafushi MP Hussain Riza, a member of the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC). Other key members include Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla, Supreme Court Judge Husnu Suood, and Attorney General Ahmed Usham.
