Speedboat Carrying 48 People Capsizes Near Dhigurah, All Rescued Safely

A speedboat carrying 48 people, including children, capsized and sank yesterday.


Police reported that they received information about the incident involving a speedboat named 'Huvan,' which was traveling from ADh. Dhigurah to Male' when it sank at approximately 7:57 AM.


The boat was carrying three crew members and 45 passengers, including four children.


All passengers were rescued and safely returned to Dhigurah, with no injuries reported, according to the police.


The incident took place between ADh. Dhigurah and Mahibadhoo. Photos shared by the police showed passengers in the water, wearing life vests.


The Maldives Meteorological Office had predicted rain for yesterday, with heavy downpours and thunderstorms affecting some islands. Seas were moderately rough, with more turbulence during squalls.


 


At the time, the MET Office had issued a Yellow Alert covering Haa Alif to Meemu Atoll.
