The family of Ahmed Usaid, a Maldivian man who went missing in Malaysia, has confirmed today that he is currently in police custody there.
Usaid was reported missing last Sunday. His father, Ibrahim Afeef, shared in a Facebook post that Usaid was last seen at approximately 3:15 PM that day.
Afeef mentioned that they have since learned that Usaid is being held by the police. The family is now at the police station in Malaysia after being called in, he added.
A source close to the case informed Mihaaru News that a hotel in Malaysia had alerted the authorities after spotting Usaid.
Previously, Usaid's father stated that CCTV footage confirmed Usaid's visit to the Maldives Embassy in Malaysia around 4 PM on Sunday, which was the last known sighting of him.
Afeef explained that since Sunday was a holiday, Usaid waited at the embassy for about an hour but left after being unable to meet with any embassy officials. He had left his wallet and student card behind, which the embassy later returned to the family.
