President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has shared that the government is exploring the possibility of annually closing schools during Ramadan, while ensuring the total number of teaching hours remains unchanged.
This announcement was made during the podcast "Rayyithunnaa Eku" [With Citizen], hosted by the President’s Office.
During the podcast, President Muizzu explained that the initial academic schedule this year had planned for schools to remain open for one week of Ramadan. However, after receiving positive feedback from parents, the decision was made to close schools for the entire month.
Looking ahead, the government intends to continue this practice in the future.
The President also emphasized the advantages of closing schools during Ramadan, particularly in providing students and families with more time for religious observance and worship.
He reiterated the government's dedication to supporting Eid celebrations and making it easier for citizens to participate in religious activities.
This year, the school break will last from December 28, 2025 to January 27, 2026. If schools are closed during Ramadan next year, the total teaching hours may decrease. Ramadan is anticipated to begin in mid-February next year according to the academic calendar.
