Raudh Ahmed Zilal, 21, from G. Eriyadhoo, was taken into custody on allegations connected to the fall of Hawwa Yumnu Rasheed from a building. During his remand hearing, the Criminal Court ordered that he be held for five days.
According to police statements made in court, Raudh and Yumnu were involved in a dispute prior to her fall. Police allege the altercation occurred on the night of the incident, just before she fell from a fanlight located in the stairwell on the ninth floor of H. Fentoniya. She was later found on the roof of a neighboring warehouse at H. Mitaaz early Friday morning.
Although police had initially stated that Raudh was not connected to the fall, in court they acknowledged that he was involved in a confrontation with Yumnu before the event. They also mentioned that shortly after her fall, Raudh had told someone—whose identity was not disclosed—that he was unaware of her whereabouts, but suspected she might have fallen.
Court statements further noted that CCTV footage appeared to show Raudh searching for Yumnu after the incident. However, police confirmed that no formal report was made to them regarding this effort.
Raudh’s legal representative highlighted that authorities had previously announced at a press conference that Raudh bore no responsibility for Yumnu’s fall. The defense emphasized that Raudh holds a responsible position and has no history of similar offenses.
In their request for the arrest warrant, police cited potential involvement in the fall, being under the influence at the time, and suspected misconduct of a sexual nature.
