A 23-year-old man from Hulhumale’, identified as Mohamed Maais of Flat 4-1-07, has been taken into police custody following an incident of reckless driving under the influence. According to police reports, the suspect was seen operating an Avas Ride taxi at high speed on the Hulhumale’ highway on Thursday night. The vehicle, which had all four indicators flashing and its headlights off, failed to comply with police instructions to stop and fled the scene.
Authorities began a search and later spotted the same car driving dangerously along Haivakaru Magu, heading in the direction of Tree Top Hospital. Despite further efforts by officers to intercept the vehicle, the driver continued to evade capture, recklessly navigating turns and ignoring speed bumps without slowing down.
The pursuit came to an end when the vehicle stopped near Flat No. 97 on Rabarugas Magu. However, police reported that as they approached, the driver made another attempt to escape. It was discovered that the car’s right rear tire was missing at the time, with the tire later found near Flat No. 103. Following his apprehension, Maais was remanded in custody for three days, and the taxi was subsequently towed by police. A photo released by authorities confirmed the vehicle involved was part of the Avas Ride fleet.
