Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has revealed it is preparing to introduce smart parking in Hulhumale'.

HDC stated the new smart parking solution will revolutionise parking in the Maldives. As a pilot project, the smart parking solution has been tested at the Fitron parking zone in the ferry terminal area of ​​Hulhumale'.

According to HDC, an auto boom gate will be installed in the smart parking zone that will be opened by reading the license plates of cars that reserve parking spaces. CCTV cameras will be installed in the parking zone to ensure the safety of parked vehicles. A digital board will be posted outside the zone showing the parking spaces inside the zone. In addition, the smart parking zone will have designated spaces for short-term and long-term parking and designated spaces for individuals with disabilities.

HDC is also making efforts on developing a parking application to facilitate parking and make parking much easier. The application will be available on iOS and Android devices and will give users an instant view of vacant parking spaces and parking prices in the smart parking zone. Users also will be able to easily reserve space and pay through the application. In addition, the application will provide notifications when parking spaces are empty, navigation to the parking spaces, and show the user's profile.
