The Dutch business MT Højgaard Private Limited has been contracted by the Ministry of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure to carry out the beach protection project in Kihaadhoo, Baa Atoll. The contract was signed by Fathimath Shaana Farooq, Director General of the Planning Ministry, and Per Vinther Larsen, Managing Director of MT Højgaard.

Kihaadhoo's beaches are eroding due to sand extraction for the port construction project. Hussain Shafiu, President of Kihaadhoo Island Council, stated that the island's population are concerned about the erosion of the unprotected beach. The project entails the construction of a 548m gravel channel and the addition of sand to the island's beach.

The project was scheduled to be finished in six months at a cost of one million dollars.
