The Civil Court has ordered the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) to pay MVR 1.5 million to the State Trading Organization (STO). This amount was initially provided by STO as sponsorship for the South League, following a proposal submitted in July 2022. The South League was originally scheduled to take place in December of the same year; however, the event did not occur.
In light of this, STO filed a case with the Civil Court, seeking the return of the funds disbursed for the sponsorship. STO indicated that they had made multiple attempts to obtain updates from FAM regarding the status of the South League but were met with a lack of response. Consequently, they felt compelled to pursue legal action to recover the sponsorship amount.
The court has mandated that FAM return the MVR 1.5 million within a period of 15 days.
