In a significant development, two Deputy Ministers at Youty Ministry, Malsha and Shiuna, have resigned following their suspension months earlier. Their resignations come in the wake of a contentious exchange with India.

The controversy began after PM Modi promoted the Indian territory of Lakshadweep, situated just north of the Maldives, as a prime tourist destination. His social media posts, featuring photographs of himself snorkeling, encouraged adventure-seeking tourists to consider the islands a must-visit.

While the resignation of Malsha and Shiuna has drawn attention, there is no immediate news regarding a third minister who was also suspended earlier this year.

President Muizzu, who attended PM Modi's inauguration in June, has yet to make a solo official visit to India.

Since assuming office, he has notably moderated his previous anti-Indian rhetoric, reflecting the Maldivian government’s attempts to balance domestic political challenges with international relations.
