The Civil Court Concluded it has no Jurisdiction to Address the Matter Against the UAE Embassy, Based on the Immunity Under Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations

The Civil Court has determined that it cannot pursue the case filed by the landlord of the G. Niusha Building against the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) regarding unpaid rent. The case involved a claim for US $92,000 (MVR 1.4 million) for overdue rent and the alleged cancellation of the rental contract without prior notice.


The embassy attempted to share relevant documents concerning the case w, but these efforts were unsuccessful. Consequently, Judge Uz Hafiza Abdul Sattar ruled that, under the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, diplomatic missions possess immunity that renders them exempt from such legal actions. Therefore, the court concluded it has no jurisdiction to address the matter against the UAE Embassy.
