The State Trading Organization (STO), in collaboration with Vitol, has officially commenced bunkering services in the Maldives, specifically at the Maldives Economic Gateway in Ihavandhippolhu. This launch marks a significant step in enhancing the maritime fuel supply chain.

As per STO, the company is now accepting bookings for international bunkering services. An STO representative emphasized that the introduction of these services will substantially strengthen the market for maritime operations in the region.

To facilitate this expansion, STO has introduced two bunkering vessels to the Maldives, each with an impressive fuel capacity of 3,200 tonnes. This addition aims to meet the growing demand in the area.

The partnership between STO and Vitol was formalized on March 13, with a commitment to providing comprehensive bunkering services at the Maldives Economic Gateway International Bunkering Facility.

The government reports that over 300 new ships navigate daily near Ihavandhippolhu, highlighting the critical need for efficient bunkering services in the north Maldives. Thus, this initiative is poised to play a pivotal role in supporting the region's burgeoning maritime trade and enhancing operational efficiency.
