Authorities have launched an investigation into allegations that some Immigration officers were involved in expatriate-related work by accepting bribes.

Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusan, announced on the social media platform X that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has directed strict action against uniformed officers who betray institutional trust and tarnish the reputation of their uniform.

Ihusan disclosed that information had been received implicating five Immigration officers in activities that violated laws and regulations, allegedly facilitating illicit enrichment. Based on this information, an investigation has been initiated by the Maldives Police Service.

Although no formal action has been taken against the officers so far, their electronic devices have been confiscated, and searches have been conducted at their residences as part of the ongoing investigation.

The Minister assured that further updates would be provided by the police and other relevant authorities as the investigation progresses. He emphasized the government's zero-tolerance policy for such misconduct.

Highlighting a precedent for strict enforcement, Ihusan referenced a June operation in which 18 prison officers were arrested for smuggling contraband into Maafushi Prison.
