The Labour Relations Authority (LRA) has announced an investigation into the case of Indian construction workers who recently made a video appeal seeking help due to harsh working conditions and unpaid wages.

In a statement released today, LRA revealed that approximately 40 workers had not received salaries for one month and ten days. The workers have submitted an appeal to the authority, requesting assistance to return to India.

LRA confirmed that they are in communication with the hiring company and are working to ensure the workers' salaries are paid before making arrangements for their return. The authority is actively engaging with the company to resolve the issue.

The workers are reportedly employed by Renaatus, an Indian construction company registered in the Maldives and involved in local projects.

Indian media outlets have reported that the High Commission of India is also involved in arranging the workers’ return. According to these reports, the workers claim they have not been paid for six months.

The LRA’s efforts, alongside the involvement of the Indian High Commission, aim to address the workers' grievances and facilitate their safe return home.
