During his ongoing official visit to Estonia, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu participated in a roundtable discussion with the Estonian Digital Advisory Council to the President of Estonia. The discussion, held at the PoCo Pop and Contemporary Art Museum in Tallinn, focused on fostering collaboration in digital transformation.
President Muizzu shared Maldives' vision for digital transformation, emphasizing accessibility, sustainability, and resilience. Estonia's President, Dr. Alar Karis, highlighted Estonia's digital achievements and expressed eagerness to collaborate with Maldives to drive innovation.
The Estonian Digital Advisory Council underscored the importance of private sector involvement in building infrastructure and advancing digital development. They also stressed promoting STEM education and logical thinking from an early age. The council committed to assisting Maldives by sharing expertise, redesigning services, and providing overall guidance.
Following the roundtable, Estonian IT visionary Linnar Viik guided President Muizzu on a tour of the museum.
Additionally, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Justice and Digital Affairs, Tonis Saar, paid a courtesy call on President Muizzu. During the meeting, President Muizzu sought Estonia's expertise to strengthen Maldives' e-governance and ICT infrastructure. Secretary General Saar expressed willingness to collaborate in achieving Maldives' digital transformation goals.
The visit also saw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Estonia's Ministry of Justice and Digital Affairs and Maldives' Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology. While details of the MoU have not been disclosed, it aims to bolster cooperation in digital development.
President Muizzu also visited the e-Estonia Briefing Centre, where he was welcomed by its Head, Triin Joasaare, and Acting Head of International Services Division and Director of Enterprise Estonia, Joonas Vanto. The centre showcased a presentation on Estonia's journey toward digital transformation, offering insights and inspiration for Maldives' digital aspirations.
