Maldives’ Wellness Tourism Sector Reaches USD 1.6 Billion

Maldives has made remarkable strides in the field of wellness tourism, with the sector now valued at USD 1 billion (MVR 15 billion), according to The Global Wellness Economy: Maldives report published by the Global Wellness Institute in partnership with JOALI BEING. When including spas and other wellness-related services, the total value rises to USD 1.6 billion (MVR 25 billion).


The report highlights that the market size of spas in Maldives has reached USD 448 million (MVR 6.9 billion), while personal care and beauty services account for USD 135 million (MVR 2.1 billion).


Over the past five years, wellness tourism in Maldives has grown by 52 percent, with a 35 percent increase observed in 2023 compared to the previous year. This progress has positioned Maldives as the 57th-ranked destination in the global wellness tourism sector.


Globally, the wellness economy has grown to USD 6.3 trillion, marking a 25 percent increase since 2019. Maldives' continued investment in wellness infrastructure and services places it as a key player in this thriving global market.
