President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has dismissed Ibrahim Faisal from his role as Minister of Tourism, according to the President's Office website. The Ministry of Tourism will now be temporarily overseen by Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed.
The reasons behind Faisal’s removal have not been disclosed. Faisal, who holds a degree in Business Management with a thesis focused on tourism, faced public criticism when he was initially appointed. Allegations of nepotism surfaced due to his relationship with Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla, but Faisal refuted these claims, asserting that the President had appointed him based on confidence in his capabilities.
Despite the controversy surrounding his appointment, Faisal’s tenure saw significant achievements, including the Maldives reaching 2 million tourist arrivals for the first time in history.
