President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that 200 housing units will be constructed on Ihavandhoo in Haa Alif Atoll, doubling the previously planned 100 units.
During his visit to Ihavandhoo as part of his official tour of the atoll, President Muizzu assured residents that he remains committed to fulfilling his campaign pledge to address their housing challenges. He emphasized that housing development in Ihavandhoo is a key component of the broader plans for northern atoll development.
The announcement follows the Ministry of Finance and Planning’s recent call for contractors to build 12,000 housing units across the atolls. Referring to this, President Muizzu highlighted that this year’s budget allocates MVR 1.5 billion exclusively for housing projects.
"Never in the history of the Maldives has such a large amount been allocated for housing in the budget. The 12,000 housing units do not include Male'; those are separate projects that we will announce separately," he told residents.
The government has previously stated that work will begin this year on a total of 27,000 housing units—15,000 in the Male' area and 12,000 across the atolls.
