Malé City Council has announced a tender process to select a contractor for the renovation of Sultan Park.

The announcement came shortly after President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu expressed his disappointment on X regarding the deteriorating condition of both Rasfannu Beach and Sultan Park. In response, the council confirmed that tender submissions are now open for the park's renovation.

Interested candidates are encouraged to make inquiries by February 18 and submit their tenders before February 24. The bidding process is restricted to local companies, partnerships, local investors, and business permit holders.

President Muizzu, after inspecting both locations, noted that Sultan Park and Rasfannu Beach—developed during his tenure as mayor—were vital spaces for residents of the congested city. However, he lamented that years of poor maintenance had left them in disrepair.

Reports indicate that Rasfannu Beach has remained neglected due to an unresolved issue between the city council and MTCC. The council clarified that while it is responsible for maintaining public parks and squares, Rasfannu was handed over to MTCC, with the company's kiosk at the site provided in exchange for maintenance services.

The council further revealed that instead of simple repairs, major infrastructure work is now required at Rasfannu. However, budget constraints prevent the city council from carrying out the necessary renovations.
