Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has signed an agreement with Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to develop an airport in Raa Atoll Fainu, aligning with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's vision to enhance transportation and drive economic growth in the region.

The agreement includes key preliminary work such as feasibility studies, an environmental impact assessment (EIA) report, and design planning. Currently, Ifuru Airport is the only operational airport in Raa Atoll. However, with the increasing demand for better connectivity, another airport is also under development in Alifushi.

During a recent visit to the atoll, President Muizzu assured the community that construction of the Fainu airport would commence soon. He emphasized that the project would generate employment opportunities and promote economic development in Fainu and surrounding islands.

Additionally, President Muizzu reiterated his commitment to expanding the number of resorts in the region, stating that the new airport would play a crucial role in facilitating tourism growth and strengthening the local economy.
