This year, the Maldives has seen an influx of 500,000 tourists, according to the Ministry of Tourism and Environment. On average, the country is experiencing 7,100 tourist arrivals per day, reflecting a 4.6 percent increase from last year. During the same period in 2024, tourist arrivals totaled 470,000.

The most significant source of visitors has been China, with 63,000 arrivals recorded so far. The UK and Russia follow as the second and third largest markets, respectively.

Out of the 500,000 tourists, 345,000 chose to stay in resorts, which accounts for 69 percent of the total arrivals, while 127,000 opted for guesthouses.

Despite the overall increase in tourist numbers this year, February saw a slight dip of 1.5 percent in arrivals compared to the same period in 2024. However, January recorded an impressive 11 percent rise compared to the previous year.

With the past two months being part of the peak tourist season, each month welcomed over 200,000 visitors. The government aims to achieve a total of 2.2 million tourist arrivals by the end of the year.
