The new backup powerhouse in Hulhumale', designed to meet the peak electricity demand, was officially inaugurated last night by STELCO’s Managing Director, Hussain Fahmy.
Located in Hulhumale' Phase 2, the powerhouse—known as Annex 2—occupies a 48,000 square-foot area. STELCO’s dedicated team completed the construction in just nine days, a remarkable achievement.
During his speech at the inauguration, Fahmy praised the STELCO staff for their swift work, highlighting their commitment to serving the public and ensuring reliable electricity supply.
Fahmy mentioned that with schools and government offices closed during the last ten days of Ramadan, a significant increase in electricity demand is unlikely during this period. However, he noted that demand is expected to peak after Ramadan, particularly during the warmer months, which is why STELCO has prepared in advance.
STELCO also assured the public that in the event of a power outage, efforts would be made to restore electricity as quickly as possible.
The Annex 2 powerhouse will be equipped with 12 generator sets, each with a capacity of 1.6 megawatts. Seven of these generators are already operational, and the remaining five will be installed by the end of Ramadan, ready to support the increased demand.
