On March 20, 2025, B. Atoll Council and Freedive Maldives entered into a contract to set a world record in celebration of World Tourism Day. Fahudh Faiz, representing Freedive Maldives, and Ahmed Afrah, President of the B. Atoll Council, signed the agreement.

The world record attempt, named “Baani,” is scheduled for October 3, 2025. The event will take place in the Angarfaru region of B. Atoll and is expected to attract approximately 1,000 participants, who will snorkel in groups. Freedive Maldives has stated that the event will be open to all islands and resorts in B. Atoll as well as to participants from the entire Maldives.

The primary goal of the Baani event, according to the B. Atoll Council, is to raise awareness about environmental issues and highlight the importance of preserving nature. It also aims to promote B. Atoll as an exciting tourist destination on a global scale. This world record attempt will be the largest and first of its kind within the atoll.

Additionally, the B. Atoll Biosphere Reserve is expected to join the event as a partner.
