The Ministry of Transport has issued a directive requiring vessels docked in lagoons or at jetties to maintain a sufficient crew presence at all times.
In its announcement, the ministry pointed out that leaving vessels unattended has resulted in serious accidents and damage to property.
"To ensure safety and security, it is crucial to have enough crew members onboard to manage the vessel when it is anchored or at a jetty," the statement emphasized.
The ministry further noted that non-compliance with this regulation will lead to enforcement actions under the Safety of Vessels in the Sea of Maldives Regulations.
