Dhapparu will be built for real estate tourism, according to Presidents spokesperson

Mabrook Azeez, spokesperson for the President's Office stated on Wednesday that the government intends to expand HA. Dhapparu for real estate tourism.

Mabrook told a press conference on Wednesday afternoon that the government took Dhapparu to build tourist facilities on the island.

Mabrook stated that the previous administration had also identified Dhapparu as a potential tourism destination.

Decentralization is a priority for the government, Mabrook said, adding that it has held preliminary negotiations about taking Dhapparu out of Filladhu's authority.

Dhapparu has been discussed with the Filladhoo Council, according to Mabrook, and the President's Office has assured the council that it will not violate the Decentralization Act.

Filladhoo's jurisdiction was withdrawn from Dhapparu in an executive order issued by the president earlier this week, a move that the main opposition party PPM called "an undemocratic action in violation of the Decentralization Act and the principles of decentralization."

The PPM accused the government of intending to profit from the sale of Dhapparu to foreigners, depriving Filladhoo residents of a vital source of income.
