Two drug peddlers were arrested on Friday morning near the Masjid Al-Sultan Muhammad Bin Abdullah, commonly known as the Viyafaariveringe Mosque.
The suspects in the case were identified as Aishath Shiyaza, 31, a policewoman who has since been suspended from active duty and Saifulla Ahmed, 26, an ex-journalist who received a Maldives Media Council award in the lifestyle category.
The criminal duo was arrested by Drug Enforcement and Police Intelligence. They found three rubber packets containing drugs and medicine pills.
During the time of the arrest and hearing, both tested positive for the drug cocaine. Both are tried for drug use, possession and trafficking.
