The new criminal court and drug court facilities are set to officially open in Hulhumale on July 26 this year, which will coincide with Maldives’ 60th Independence Day.

Once the facilities are in use, the current premises of the Criminal and Drug courts will be shut down.

In addition to being highly deteriorated, the old STO building where Criminal Court currently operates has limited room.  This prompted earlier attempts to temporarily relocate to the old Covid hospital.  Later on, though, the government made the decision to move the court to the Covid hospital and fully restore it.
